Voluntary Product Safety Recall of  Britax SMILE III, 4 and certain 5Z made prior to March 2024 Pushchair Chassis

At Britax Römer, the safety and satisfaction of our customers are our highest priorities. As part of our ongoing commitment to product quality and consumer safety, we are initiating a voluntary recall to help ensure the continued safety of your child for SMILE III made September 2019 – May 2022, SMILE 4 made July 2022 – May 2023 and certain models of SMILE 5z Pushchair Chassis made February 2023 – March 2024.

This decision follows the identification of a potential safety issue. Under certain usage habits, the front wheel locking mechanism may wear and result in the front wheel not being properly attached to the chassis, which lead to a potential mechanical / structural failure of the pushchair.

What to do now: 

1. Check your pushchair chassis.
Perform the following simple steps:

Remove the seat unit or carrycot from the chassis. Then lift the chassis so that the front wheels are off the ground, and gently pull each front wheel to remove it.

  • If the front wheels detach (without pressing the release button), please stop using your pushchair immediately, proceed with point 2 below to register for a replacement or repair kit.
     
  • If the front wheels remain securely attached, you may continue using your pushchair, whilst you are waiting for the replacement. Please proceed with point 2 below to register.

2. Please visit www.smile-stroller-check.com to register yourself, if eligible, for a replacement chassis or repair kit for the SMILE III, 4 or 5z. Please do not forget to dispose of your SMILE III, 4 or 5z chassis and front wheel(s) separately in accordance with local waste regulations. You will be asked to confirm this during registration.

3. The seat unit and carrycot from the SMILE III, 4 and 5z remain fully compatible with the replacement chassis, so you can continue using your existing components.

4. If you have sold your affected SMILE III, 4 or 5z chassis to another person, please make sure that you make that person aware of this product recall notice.
