MAX-SAFE PRO
FACE BACKWARD, LOOK FORWARD SECURELY
For more than 30 years, Britax Römer has developed rear-facing car seats, the absolute safest way to travel for small children. We recommend that all children ride rear-facing for as long as possible, preferably until the age of four or five, but preferably even longer if possible. Why is that, you might ask? Let us explain!
A small body needs extra support
- Small children's bodies are not fully developed and their heads are very heavy in relation to the rest of their body
- Children's neck and cervical vertebrae are not fully grown, making them vulnerable to violent force in a collisionHead-on collisions are the most common and have the highest speed and impact force
- In a forward-facing car seat, the child's body is caught by the seat belt while the head is thrown back and forth with enormous force
- In a rear-facing car seat, the impact force is distributed from the torso all the way up to the head, reducing injuries
- Young children in forward-facing car seats are 5 times more likely to die or be seriously injured compared to those in rear-facing car seats.

Do not turn children too early
Sometimes you can be tempted to turn your child too soon. Mostly because you perceive that she is sitting uncomfortably. The legs feel too long or the head starts sticking up over the edge. Remember that children are soft, mobile and flexible.
The vast majority of children both sleep and play in all sorts of strange positions without saying anything about comfort. If the child does not complain that he is sitting uncomfortably, it is probably because the position is comfortable.
A rear-facing car seat is outgrown only when the child's head protrudes a third above the edge, approximately at the height of the child's eyes. See also the chair's recommended length and weight limits and change the chair when they are exceeded.
Last but not least, always remove baggy outerwear to get the car seat harness as close to the body as possible. It gives extra space in the chair, but above all, it is much safer.
