Side Impact Protection
At BRITAX RÖMER we develop child car seats offering side impact protection for full head containment and optimum body protection, thanks to the energy absorbing and soft, deeply padded side wings. During our constant quest to improve the safety for children’s travel, we have discovered important research findings.
With that in mind, we have developed D-SIP® – a patented technology that provides superior side impact protection.

The growing importance of side impact protection
1 out of 4 car accidents is a side collision*

Furthermore, side collisions account for 20% of child car seat crash fatalities!*

What is D-SIP®?
The D-SIP® is a unique D-shaped safety device that has been engineered into both sides of the new BABY-SAFE infant carriers.
The D-SIP® nearside the car door is simply lifted when installing the infant carrier in the car, and the audible click indicates that the D-SIP® is locked in place.
By doing so, the D-SIP® reduces the distance to the door the infant carrier is installed next to.
In the event of a side collision, the D-SIP® system works by impacting on the door early and so reducing any momentum gained in a crash. The crash energy is then distributed throughout the infant carrier over a longer time, minimising the harmful impact to your baby. The BABY-SAFE plus II and BABY-SAFE plus SHR II have both the added safety of the D-SIP® whether installed with the BABY-SAFE ISOFIX Base, BABY-SAFE Belted Base or the vehicle seat belt.
Extra impact pads have also been added to both infant carriers in the hip area to provide even further protection. When the D-SIP® is not in use, for example if the infant carrier is used with a pushchair, it neatly folds away.
D-SIP® technology performance
The graph shows the significant difference to the head injury criteria and the superior performance of the D-SIP® technology. Blue curve without and green curve with D-SIP®.
I already have a BABY-SAFE Infant carrier from the 2009/10 collection. Is this one less safe?
If I am not using the D-SIP® or simply have forgotten to activate, would that cause a problem?
